De Havilland Dh88 Comet "G-ACSR"
______________________________

This is a repaint of the default FS2004 De Havilland Dh88 Comet. G-ACSR was piloted by Owen Cathcart-Jones and Ken Waller in the Melbourne race. It arrived forth in Melbourne and left at once for the return flight to England carrying news reels and photographs. In December 1934 the same aircraft, now named Reine Astrid left from Brussels to Leopoldville in the Congo carrying the Christmas mail.

A couple of notes, firstly, the colour, green obviously. Described as dark green in some references, so I took the obvious step and plumped for 'British Racing Green'. Now that in itself is a whole can of worms, as some of you may know, BRG is not just one colour, but more a collective of colours varying from racing car manufacturer, and even then in different shades. Dark, Medium, light, etc. The choices are numerous. I plumped for an earlier shade as they were lighter, some of the later shades were much darker and would have appeared almost black in the old B&W photos. To my eyes, it does not.

Secondly, the placing of the 'Reine Astrid' legend was part guesswork, part mapping of the model. Mainly the later. My guess from photos I have seen is there is a blur under the canopy in one shot, this may be text, but the mapping made this placement impossible unless the text would be reversed on the opposite side.

So there you go, my best guess.

Installation
____________

Unzip the 'texture.2' & 'texture.2A' folders to your 'DeHavilland Comet' folder within the aircraft folder of FS9's root folder. This typically resides in your 'Program Files' folder of your C: drive, but may differ depending where you installed FS2004.

Then edit the aircraft.cfg adding the following lines just after other very similar entries...

All being well you should be able to fly her.

Being as you downloaded this from the very fine SimOuthouse, you'll also find me there. Drop a PM or ask a question in the FS2004 forum, I'll do what I can to help.

This repaint was mainly for my own enjoyment, part of a project to cover all schemes of real life Comets, time will tell if I get them all done. Being so, they are not 100% accurate, due to limited research available and (mainly) the texture mapping of the FS2004 model. On the latter point, artistic license has been taken with best judgement. I did my best.

If you are a 'rivet counter', I'm not interested, go paint your own!! If not and have some info or useful feedback, I'm all ears.
